Like the rural households they serve, rural volunteer firefighters often pay a premium for homeowners insurance based on where they live. The signs are constructed on 100% aluminum and measure 18 inches long by 6 inches wide with rounded corners. Holes are pre-drilled in two arrangements so that you can display your sign horizontally or vertically at the end of your driveway where it will be visible in case of an emergency. The cost is $20.00 and will be payable when you pick up your sign. A GFD member will contact you when your sign is available to arrange a pick up time and location. We would like to have all homeowners participate in this program.
Those are determined by the Insurance Services Office, which assigns fire departments a score between 1 and 10. A score of 1 is the safest bet that an insurance company won’t have to pay out on fire claims. Any area that is more than five driving miles from the nearest fire station is automatically rated a 10. Our communities need us to be trained, equipped, and ready to respond. That includes manufacturing facilities, hospitality and tourism establishments, farms, churches, church and Scout camps, public lands and highways, and about 450 rural households. What those households pay for homeowners insurance is directly related to the readiness and reliability of the fire department that serves them.
The competition of that day was keen as each group sought money from every source for their fledgling organizations. Government funds were not available and members of each group thought their organization to be more important than the other. NFVFD has one Letter Drive Fundraiser each year (currently in process) and we always give local contact information if you have any questions.
